Chapter
7
This chapter talks a lot about
sharing and working with your colleagues. Being able to get along and learn
about technology from your teammates. Using your more technological teammates
as an advantage for you to learn the technology and apply it to class.
I have gone through both the
advantage of your teammates knowing technology and the disadvantages of your
teammates not knowing technology. It is kind of frustrating when your teammates
don’t want to learn technology at all. They have dug their feet in and just
given up. This is so frustrating to me because to me in todays world you have
to have a basic knowledge of technology. Some advantages to are that some of my
teammates know different software that they can help me learn and vice versa.
It really is a team effort when we are all sharing ideas with each other. I use
class dojo in my class to keep my students on task and it works great. When
they hear the buzz they know they need to check what they are doing. When they hear
the ding they know they are closer to getting a warm fuzzy.
I think collaboration with colleagues about technology is the best way to do it. Especially as a new teacher. When I started teaching I wanted to incorporate technology because that is what I am interested in, but I also was teaching these kids math. That year I just tried to teach math, incorporating what technology I could think of at the time. The next year, my department head changed, and she was really into using technology in the classroom, and all about cool ways to get our students using it, not just the teacher. We collaborated a lot, and mostly tried to "out do" each other because no other teachers in our department seemed really interested in using technology that wasn't a calculator. She was gone the next year, and my technology use in my classroom dipped tremendously. Not having that support makes trying new things scary. Knowing that someone else can help you, or at least encourage you really was a big thing for me!
ReplyDeleteThat is cool! I wish there was someone who was both super excited and knowledgeable about technology at my work. At least most of us seem to be willing to learn and try.
